History

Spending the night in Grand Hotel Alkmaar means spending the night in a building with history.

This municipal monument was built in 1877 by Cornelis Hendrik Peters - later the government architect and student of the renowned architect Pierre Cuypers - as the new home of the Alkmaar post office and the 'Kadaster en Hypotheken' office.
A building with a central function, which was supposed to symbolize the prosperity of a city on the rise.

The post office moved in 1916, but the stylish building, built in a neo-gothic style, has lost none of its splendour. A suitable accommodation for Grand Hotel Alkmaar.

And history repeats itself: with guests coming and going for the hotel, restaurant and grand café, it remains a central location in Alkmaar.
